The Circle of Courage is a model of positive youth development based in the four universal growth needs of all children: belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity. In order to teach to a student’s heart we must do so through creating experiences that let them know they are significant, capable, have inner power and are genuinely good people. One good way to do this is to tie this in with the rules or expectations of your classroom. Create a classroom (and school) environment that works to foster these experiences so that teaching and learning comes from the classroom community as well as the teacher.
