Travel

Miss Campbell loves to travel. She has been to five provinces, three states, three continents and five countries with plans to visit many more! Ms. Campbell believes that there is a lot to be learned through international travel and experiencing cultural diversity. In experiencing other cultures, people and places we are not only learning about the world, but ourselves as well.

A few of Miss Campbell’s trips abroad have been volunteer trips. One to Kenya, with Me to We, where she participated in building a library for an elementary school, went on safari, and learned to speak a little Swahili. Another volunteer trip was in Laos, where Ms. Campbell spent time at an Asian Elephant sanctuary, teaching English and restoring a school in a nearby village. These trips are very near to Ms.Campbell’s heart, it was on these trips where she got to see the true value of education and how it really does change lives.

Employment

When Ms. Campbell was young, she spent a lot of time reading and at the school library. Eventually she began to help out, by checking out and re-shelving books. Later on, Ms.Campbell’s very first job was working at her local library when she was 14. This job involved repairing, re-shelving, shipping and cleaning books. Her appreciation of literature continued to grow, as well as her reading list. It was while working this at the library that Ms. Campbell wrote and published her very own book!

After high school Ms.Campbell worked a few different jobs. She was Youth Coordinator for her band, Boston Bar First Nations, organizing and implementing field trips, swimming lessons and other activities for our youth to participate in over summer vacation. During this position she organized trips to Science World, river rafting, high-ropes courses, camp-outs and a sleepover at Vancouver Aquarium.

Ms. Campbell also spent some time working at a Nlaka’pamux Heritage Village. This job involved sharing information about artifacts, traditional song and dance, and lastly, planning and leading activities for school tours. During this time she learned a lot about her own cultural history, her language and teaching Indigenous culture at age appropriate levels.
